David M. Sternfield, JD (Director)
David lives in Vernon Hills with his wife, Lisa, and their two children. He has practiced law in the state of Illinois since 1994. His diverse professional background includes experience as in-house legal counsel at Fortune 500 companies such as McDonald's Corporation and MCI. Mr. Sternfield has also gained first-hand knowledge of the financial markets trading futures and options on the floor of the Chicago Board Option Exchange and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In 2002, Mr. Sternfield founded his own firm, the Law Offices of David M. Sternfield, LLC, where he counsels clients in legal, financial, and family issues. Mr. Sternfield founded the ALP in order to better the lives of individuals with autism throughout the United States and around the world. Mr. Sternfield's daughter has autism. Additionally, Mr. Sternfield consults state and federal legislators on disability legislation.
Dr. Alexander Bassuk, MD, PhD
Alex lives in Iowa City, Iowa with his wife, Yamini, and their three children. He trained in pediatrics and child neurology at Children's Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Alex is currently an attending pediatric neurologist at the University of Iowa and an Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Genetics at the University of Iowa. His research interests include neural stem cell biology and the genetics of pediatric nervous system abnormalities.
Lauren S. Fagel, MSEd
Lauren lives in Vernon Hills with her husband, Brian, and their three children. She is currently the principal of Mundelein High School in Mundelein, Illinois. With a background in teaching secondary Social Studies, working with special needs student populations, conducting teacher research, and coaching Northwestern University graduate students through their research projects, Lauren comes to the ALP Board of Directors with an educational perspective. She spends time every week with her niece who has autism.
Steven Friedlander, BA
Steven lives in Cos Cob, Connecticut with his wife, Stacey, and their two children. After nineteen years with Carolee Designs Inc., during which he participated in all aspects of developing the business into the multimillion dollar designer brand that it is today, he transitioned into his current position as CEO of Qwikker based in New York, New York. In this new position, Steven operates in a thriving technology corporation with offices throughout the United States and around the world. He is active in the community synagogue, where he has served on the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, and as President.
Jeffrey Redick, JD
Jeff lives in Elmhurst with his wife, Jodi, and their two children. He is a partner at Power & Cronin, Ltd., in Oakbrook, Illinois. He concentrates on the defense of companies and municipal entities before the Illinois Industrial Commission, Illinois Circuit Courts, and Illinois Appellate Courts. He also defends doctors and medical providers in medical malpractice cases. He is active in DuPage County politics and participates in a number of civic activities. He currently serves as an elected member of the DuPage County Board.
